A sampling of comments Echo staff enjoyed in 2009:

Story: New Great Lakes quiz
Comment: “My ex is definitely an Asian carp. He’s huge, gross-looking, and he frequently pops up when I least expect him to. I wish there was an electric fence to keep him away from Michigan.”

Story: The bed bugs bit but they won’t spread disease, report says
Comment: “They ARE awful, Thanks to my mother-in-law giving us an infested bedframe, now our whole house is infested. We’ve tried most of the cheaper remedies to no avail, they come back a few days later with a vengeance. It doesn’t help that the house we’re renting is in bad condition as it is, so there are plenty of hiding spots for them. If anyone knows of any less expensive methods of killing them, please say something. We’re suffering here, My arms look like I’m a crack-head ’cause of all the sores.”

Story: Shifting carbon from roads to roofs
Comment: Hooray! Green roofs work. My wife and I have lived in our earth-sheltered home since April, 2006. Besides earth berms on three sides, our home also has three feet of earth piled on the roof. We have grass, weeds, shrubs and a tree growing on the roof. We burn NO fossil fuels, so we don’t add any greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Next step: a wind turbine to generate our own electricity. Then: an all-electric car, so the wind will power our transportation.

Story: Column: Which Great Lake are you?
Comment: If you’re a poser, wanna-be or an outsider, you’re Lake Champlain!
