The Montreal Canadians took on the Minnesota Wild in the semi finals. In the battle of these two heavy weights the Minnesota Wild prevailed and will be moving on to the finals.

They await the winner in the other semi-final match between the Penguins and the Maple Leafs. We preview that battle here. Vote for the winner below. Results come out Friday.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh’s home arena was the first to become certified in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED certified. This is largely because of its 40 percent reduction in water consumption, the Green Building Alliance reported.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs are home to one of the more unique ways to become sustainable. Their arena is cooled by a “deep-lake water cooling” system that uses cold water from Lake Ontario. Additionally it uses a system similar to an anaerobic digester that turns food waste into water. The system has helped the Maple Leafs reduce their waste by more than 74 percent since 2007. They also have a high tech cleaning system that turns tap water into an extremely effective cleaning solution, that doesn’t require as many harsh chemicals. In three years the Leafs also managed to reduce their emissions of carbon compounds, their carbon footprint, by 34 percent and waste by 48 percent.
