Lake-to-lake train could attract riders, economic growth

Imagine it’s a hot summer day in Lansing and you’re dreaming of Lake Michigan beaches. You could hop in your car and deal with traffic back-ups and the neverending orange cones of construction season. If you have 15 hours to spare, maybe you could take a train with a quick pit stop in Chicago. But if you’re not up for those options, a potential alternative is gaining steam.

A new study from the Michigan Environmental Council says that a coast to coast train in Michigan could make money and attract a significant number of riders.

Current State talks about  the vision for a new passenger rail system with Liz Treutel, Transportation Policy Associate with the MEC.

  1. Yes! Go Michigan Railing! With stops in small communities along the route for new passengers; opening Michigan cities with tourism attractions & options. A Win Win, Pure Michigan Revival of beautiful communities and beach outings. So many old train stations going by wayside today. City of Charlotte, Eaton County seat Welcomes a Lake to Lake!!

  2. Yes, a coast-to-coast train might be a good idea, but let’s make sure that it is powered by an environmentally friendly system, be it hydrogen, electric or other. We don’t need to be spewing more toxins into the air just so folks can be entertained in a new way.
