Six publications with environmental themes recently received top awards in the 27th annual Northeast Minnesota Book Awards.
Two were reviewed in Great Lakes Echo. They include:
- The winner of the memoir and creative nonfiction category is Rooted in Iron and Ice: Innocent Years on the Mesabi, by Gary W. Barfknecht, published by North Star Press of St. Cloud, Inc. See the review.
- The winner of the general nonfiction category is Twin Ports by Trolley: The Streetcar Era in Duluth-Superior, by Aaron Isaacs, published by University of Minnesota Press. See the review.
- The winner of the children’s literature category is Rhoda’s Rock Hunt, by Molly Beth Griffin, illustrated by Jennifer A. Bell, published by Minnesota Historical Society Press.
- Earning honorable mention in the poetry category is Night Train Red Dust: Poems of the Iron Range, by Sheila Packa, published by Wildwood River Press.
- Honorable mention for general nonfiction is Sawdust in Their Blood, by Jim Boyd, published by North Shore Press.
- Honorable mention for art and photography went to The Other Side of Wilderness, by Richard C. Johnson, published by Will o’ the Wisp Books.
