The University of Wisconsin-Madison is offering a Massive Open Online Course titled Changing Weather and Climate in the Great Lakes Region.

Topics of the course include Great Lakes weather, observed changes in climate and societal impacts of climate change. Climate change information from all the Great Lakes states will be discussed.

“It is important to start the conversation about climate change in communities,” said Margaret Mooney, one of the course instructors and the director of Education and Public Outreach for the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The free course starts Monday and lasts four weeks. The content will be available online until the end of March, so participants can start late.

Information from NOAA’s National Weather Service Weather-Ready Nation initiative, as well as findings from the recent National Climate Assessment and the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts will be discussed.
