Exhibit preserves artifacts of endangered places by Great Lakes Echo
Many scientists predict that as climate change becomes more extreme, dry and coastal regions around the globe will be heavily impacted by drought and rising sea levels. Entire communities could disappear.
The art project, ‘A People’s Archive of Sinking and Melting,’ documents these threatened areas. The collection is made up of objects submitted by people from around the world. The items represent places that may vanish because of the impacts of climate change.
Artist and archive curator Amy Balkin says the project is an archive of what will have been. She’s asking people to collect remnants of places that may disappear because of the geographic, economic or political implications of climate change, such as sea-level rise or desertification.
