Ohio’s governor vetoes Lake Erie water withdrawal bill

The Plain Dealer reports Ohio Gov. John Kasich vetoed a bill Friday that would have let businesses take millions of gallons of Lake Erie water without a permit.

Under the legislation, businesses would be allowed up to 5 million gallons of water per day from Lake Erie, 2 million from groundwater and 300,000 from streams — possibly the weakest water protections in the Great Lakes.
