This holiday weekend, Michiganders can knock back a brew for the Great Lakes.

The Beer Grotto, a Michigan craft beer bar, and the Dark Horse Brewing Co. are raising funds for Great Lakes conservation in a way just about all of us can get behind — with beer.

For every Dark Horse draft purchased at a Beer Grotto in July, the companies will donate $1 to the Alliance for the Great Lakes, an organization that protects and restores the lakes and coastlines. Every Dark Horse variety is included; the bars will rotate the selections on tap throughout July.

The Beer Grotto locations in Lansing, Ann Arbor and Dexter are participating in the month-long fundraiser. Dark Horse is based in Marshall, Michigan.

The Lansing Beer Grotto is featuring eight Dark Horse lagers, said bar manager, Joe McMahon.

“It’s a pretty cool cause,” he said. “It’ll probably raise at least a few thousand [dollars].”

So order up, Michigan. Someone’s got to save the lakes, right?
