DETROIT — Which Great Lake is the most popular?
Going strictly by pizza preference, it appears to be Huron and Michigan. They were marginally the most-ordered pizzas in a promotion that raised $6,000 for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
“They were all pretty close,” said Wesley Pikula, vice president of operations at Buddy’s. “They were within about twenty pies of each other.”
Last year, Echo reported that the popular Michigan pizza chain Buddy’s Pizza launched its Great Lakes Pizza Collection with a pledge.
For every Great Lakes-inspired pie purchased, Buddy’s donated $1 to Alliance for the Great Lakes.
Buddy’s donation will go towards litter reduction and the restoration of wetlands and shorelines on Detroit’s Belle Isle.
The collection was popular among customers, who will still be able to come in and ask for their favorite Great Lakes pie by name. “We have outstanding customer loyalty,” said Pikula.
All five Great Lakes Pizzas will remain on the menu at the nine Buddy’s locations.
Pikula said that no recipes had changed, and the Alliance will continue to print the collection’s promotional posters.
And according to Pikula, the customers’ money is in good hands.
“We did some research into which organization was doing the best job,” he said. “The Alliance seemed to be the most committed to helping the Great Lakes.”
The Chicago-based Alliance for the Great Lakes is the oldest independent organization devoted to the Great Lakes, working to protect and restore the world’s largest surface freshwater resource.
