U.S. and Canadian warships tour the Great Lakes

U.S. and Canadian warships are touring the Great Lakes to demonstrate unity on the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

The U.S. and British Canada were on opposing sides of that war, sometimes called the Second War of Independence.

Canadian vessels are also demonstrating their power and role in protecting the region.

HMCS ships Ville de Québec, Moncton and Summerside will be joined by the American vessels USS Hurricane and USS De Wert, according to a news release by the Royal Canadian Navy.

Events include band concerts, Blue Angels air shows, cook-offs, demonstrations of the U.S. Marine Corps, and other activities

  • Milwaukee, Wis., Aug. 8 — 13: HMCS Ville de Québec, USS Hurricane and USS De Wert.
  • Thunder Bay, Ontario, Aug. 15 — 20: HMCS Ville de Québec.
  • Chicago, Aug. 15 — 20: USS Hurricane, USS De Wert, HMCS Moncton and HMCS Summerside.
  • Toledo, Ohio, Aug. 23 — 27: HMCS Ville de Québec, USS Hurricane and USS De Wert.
  • Toronto,  Aug. 29 — Sept. 3: HMCS Ville de Québec.
  • Cleveland,  Aug. 28 — Sept. 2: USS Hurricane, USS De Wert, HMCS Moncton and HMCS Summerside.
  • Windsor, Ontario, Sept. 5 — 10: HMCS Ville de Québec.
  • Detroit, Sept. 5-10: USS Hurricane and USS De Wert.
  • Buffalo,  Sept. 11 — 17:
    HMCS Ville de Québec, USS Hurricane and USS De Wert.
  • Hamilton, Ontario, Sept. 18 — 21: HMCS Ville de Québec.
  • Oshawa, Ontario, Sept. 21 — 24:
    HMCS Ville de Québec.
