Echo hits Instagram

Great Lakes Echo is increasing its visibility with a newly launched Instagram Page.

The account, @greatlakesecho, will publish explainers, headlines and detailed captions. Much of it will be based on stories reported by Echo staffers now. But it may also go the other way where fresh stories reported on Instagram become the basis for traditional stories.

Great Lakes Echo already has Twitter and Facebook feeds for social media outreach. The move is an exciting new step, given Instagram’s ubiquity.

“Our news service was created 13 years ago as a test bed for new ways to report on the environment,” said David Poulson, editor and founder of Great Lakes Echo. “This is just an overdue step in that direction.

“Our students are all over Instagram. We should be, too.”
