A U.S./Canadian treaty organization has launched a series of public hearings to assess progress under the 2012 Great Lakes Water Quality agreement.

The first hearing by the International Joint Commission is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the West Bay Beach Hotel in Traverse City, Michigan, (registration and details.)

You can review the governments’ progress  report under the agreement here. Commission officials say the meetings are to assess how “the Great Lakes are faring, learn about actions that citizens are taking to restore and protect their part of the lakes and discover what’s most important to each person when it comes to the health and vitality of the Great Lakes ecosystem.”

Similar hearings are scheduled for Aug. 6 in Collingwood, Ontario, (registration and details) and Aug. 7 in Goderich, Ontario, (registation and details.)
