The autumn months of 2016 have been some of the warmest on record. But even though Michigan hasn’t seen much snow yet, some people are gearing up for the winter.

Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan, recently hosted its first snowshoe building workshop of the season. Each class is two sessions long. The next session is Friday. Other classes are slated for Jan. 6, Jan. 20 and Feb.  3.

The class costs $180. But making snowshoes can save hundreds of dollars. Class participants get all the materials and guidance required to put together their own pairs of shoes. Classes are limited to eight participants.

To get in on the action, call Sleepy Hollow State Park at 517-651-6217 or email Denise Smith at smithd8@michigan.gov.
