  1. Thanks to Justin Londer for providing us with a new picture of the deepwater sculpin.

  2. That sure doesn’t look like a longnose gar; snout’s too short. I’d guess it’s a spotted gar.

  3. That sculpin looks pretty nasty – like a flat alien monster – too bad it’s so small – if it were 4 feet long and 100 lbs, it would win hands down!!

  4. The deepwater sculpin can live in the deepest parts of teh great lakes, you goy nothing on us other fishses.

  5. You missed the Sea Lamprey. Now that’s one ugly sucker. Wait, you missed the sucker. I could go on carping about this all night. Wait, that’s another one….

  6. I agree with Chenyere. If I had to pick the most unique – and I would add beautiful – it would be the Bowfin, if only because of the excellent photo posted here.

  7. Why “ugly”??? What about unique!!! The most “unique” looking, without any knowledge of their biological functions, is the deepwater sculpin. It looks like an amber tadpole. These other fishes are certainly specialized in their shapes in order to better survive in their niches. But, gee! Not all fish need to have scales, tales nor lungs like whales… BEAUTIFUL!
