VIDEO: Scientists examine the world’s freshwater lakes
The Large Lakes Observatory is observing the Great Lakes to better understand threats to the world’s freshwater resources. Research teams are studying everything from climate change impacts on the lakes to nitrate build-ups.
And it’s not just the Great Lakes. With support from the National Science Foundation, the observatory’s scientists are studying the biology, chemistry, physics and geology of large lakes around the world.
The video below highlights some of their research in the Great Lakes.

It’s too bad that climate change deniers suffer from an SDD. Now that researchers have verified that even Lake Superior is getting warmer, we really need to work on a prescription to alleviate this nasty plague of Science Deficit Disorder. There seems to be too much of that going around.

Scientist are fine if they care. If they are just paid to spew some local point of view than what’s the point? Take the Lower Great Lakes for example. The New York Power Authority use 1960′s Environmental impact studies to excuse the use of their “Ice Boom” that stops the normal, natural 12,000 year old process of ice flow from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario. Do you really think that can be done with, as they put it, “No significant impact on nature”? Hardly! Me, as a amateur self taught scientist, was able to clearly identify and link at least 4 HUGE problems being caused by the inhibited ice flow. Read them at http://www.bantheboom.com and see if you don’t agree. Anyhow, where’s a good reporter when you need one? Can someone please send one my way to get some national attention to the very serious and real threat to 2/5Ths of our Great Lakes? I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.
