Inquisitive about the Great Lakes? Submit or tweet your questions and they could be answered by scientists or other experts.

Specialists on board the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s research vessel Lake Guardian are exploring Lake Superior this week.  They are answering questions about the Great Lakes submitted by the public through a form starting today.

Individuals can alternatively tweet questions to @EPAresearch using the #LakeSci11 hashtag.

The Great Lakes are hugely important for individuals in the Great Lakes basin but they are also a national treasure, said Melissa Anley-Mills, member of the science communication staff for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is wonderful that technologies such as these, which allow experts on Lake Superior to answer people’s questions about the Great Lakes, exist, she said.

People have already started submitting questions. Every day experts will select and answer some questions. People can also check out others’ question on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website.

  1. Oh it’s valid all right. Picture the early days of discovering the earth is round, not flat. That’s a paradigm shift. It’s a tough sell until you find people of willing to listen. The Power Authority won’t care or do the right thing. It will be up to everyday people like me and you to raise awareness and get a fair hearing. My “Catch Phrase” has become “The ice went down that river for thousands of years, do you really think you can just stop it and not have anything bad happen?” Be serious. The power plant was re-licensed illegally by expediting the license when they were forced to deal with “Ice Boom Theory”. If anyone has access to a national reporter please pitch this story. Thank You, Joe Barrett of http://www.bantheboom.com

  3. I’d appreciate your comments on the real effects of the ice boom used in Lake Erie. My research concludes it’s very bad for the environment and yet people sit by. What’s your take? Joe Barrett author of “Ice Boom Theory” @ http://www.bantheboom.com Thanks
