Volunteers are clearing invasive shrub from YMCA Storer Camps

(MI) Jackson Citizen Patriot – This week, their first order of business was to rid the grounds just north of Stony Lake of buckthorn, an invasive shrub. For three hours Wednesday morning, they stacked buckthorn branches into small piles, slowly clearing the brush with large weed whackers.

Nancy Burger, the camp’s program development director, said the group removing the pesky buckthorn ultimately is helping kids who visit the camp for outdoor education, as well as freeing up time for camp staffers. More
